Some of the IBI researchers at Venice's Marco Polo Airport. (Left to right: Nora Bateson, Philip Guddemi, Torbjörn Jiredal, Graham Barnes, Rex Weyler, Stephen Nachmanovich) BI researchers from around the world converged on a small town in northern Italy to examine issues of how complex systems can be "unstuck." This first meeting was eye-opening for all of us who attended. This first step examined therapeutic context. Future meetings will examine the same issues in different contexts and go into further depth in each of these contexts.

The IBI team visited University Cambridge and had a delightful lunch with Patrick Bateson (pictured here with Nora Bateson and her daughter Sahra). While at Cambridge we spent time researching the William Bateson archives. Some of our findings are posted here on this site. After Cambridge, we went to the University of Sheffield and met with fault and staff at the Bateson Centre (where they are doing cutting edge research in genetics). After this visit, we conducted research at an extraordinary pre-school in Telford. We ended our England visit with a successful and packed house at a Bateson Salon in London.
